In general, characteristics of leachate has high COD, especialy XOCs (Xenobiotic Organic Compounds) and high nitrogen total. In addition, landfill leachates also contains dissolved metals, heavy metals, ect. People have applied various combined methods such as mechanical, biological, chemical and physical to treat leachate in Vietnam. The cost of these methods is quite high; quality of the outputs is unstable; some indicators such as COD, nitrogen are not satisfactory; the process systems have occupied many large areas. Therefore, the practical application to treat leachates is difficult to work out. Because of these reasons, the study and application of membrane reactor to treat leachates in Vietnam appears necessary.
